Michael Harris

Meet Michael

First elected to the Ontario Legislature on October 6th, 2011, with a successful re-election on June 12th, 2014, Michael has been a tireless advocate for the constituents of Kitchener- Conestoga. The diverse riding is made up of Wilmot, Wellesley, and Woolwich townships, as well as the southern section of Kitchener bordered by Highway 7/8.

As MPP, Michael has worked persistently with local officials to improve regional emergency dispatching; successfully called for the Highway 7 expansion between Kitchener and Guelph; held  government to account for two-way, all-day GO train commitments; fought for fair and open tendering on local public infrastructure projects; championed roundabout safety for pedestrians and motorists including testing on G2 and G road exams and continues to fight for treatment and support for those impacted by Rare Diseases in Ontario.

Michael has served in a series of roles in the Official Opposition including PC Party Vice Chair of Community Outreach, and PC Environment Critic. Michael now serves as PC Transportation and Research and Innovation Critic holding government to its deadlines and budget targets while ensuring taxpayer investments promote economic productivity and enhance quality of life.

Born and raised on the family farm, Michael emerged as a proud graduate of Conestoga College’s Business Management Program and the Leadership Waterloo Region program. Prior to his election, Michael was a business development manager at Honeywell.

Michael enjoys volunteering in the community and has met many of his closest friends through his service with, and support of, local organizations including Compass Kitchener, the Canadian Cancer Society, The United Way K-W, The Juvenile Diabetes Walk to Cure Campaign, and The Heart & Stroke Foundation. A member of the German Concordia Club, The Elmira Legion, and a season ticket-holder for the Kitchener Rangers, Michael maintains his strong roots within the community as he works to represent the people of Kitchener-Conestoga at Queen’s Park.

Michael currently resides in Kitchener’s Doon South with his wife Sarah and 4 children; Brayden, Murphy, Lincoln, Rosy and their dog Eliot.
